52 Fridays | Celebration!!

May 17th, 2012

Most of you wouldn’t have known that the theme this week was supposed to be Broken. However, I’m playing boss again and I’m changing topics. But seeing as how the last 5 years of our life have pretty much revolved around James’ education… I am so so so happy to be celebrating his graduation from the University of Idaho! He completed a bachelors degree in Anthropology with a minor in Natural Resources. He was accepted to several Masters programs in the UK and we are currently in the process of loads and loads of paperwork that will land us in…. London! Yay!

So this week is all about James and his great accomplishment. For anyone that has gone to University and those of you who have done it while raising children, you can probably grasp what an incredible feeling it is to have completed this important part of our journey. And James, you did it really really well. :) I am so proud of you!

So, we are off. Another adventure, another continent, another degree. Europe- here we come!

Thank you to all our friends and family who have been such wonderful support. Your encouragement and love have been so important to us. We love you all!

52 Fridays | Album Cover

May 11th, 2012

I think that so far this week is one of my favorites. Cavan’s favorite musician is one fabulously talented Mr Jason Mraz. It seemed fitting then to let him emulate a musician he admires in our interpretation of an Album Cover. :) He sang all afternoon (and all evening). We looked at photos and videos of Mr. Mraz performing and we talked about his creativity and passion. Then, because we got distracted, we frantically drove around racing the setting sun, looking for a patch of light. We did pretty good I think.

Cavan,

I hope that your love of music and your own creativity & enthusiasm stays at the forefront of your life. Because you were born to be this delightful little man I see in these photos.

Love,
Mom

52 Fridays | Children that play :)

May 4th, 2012

This week… our sweet little Declan turned 4!!

The project theme coincided beautifully, telling me that I needed to be photographing children or play for this post. Easy-Peasy :) I love to see my kiddos play.

And so, in honor of Declan week:

Hello, Mr. D. How old are you?

RUN!!!

We love you, Little Man <3

Sneak Peak | Genesee Family Photographer

May 3rd, 2012

This weekend we had some seriously beautiful weather and this is twice now that the photography gods have given me sunshine and warmth for my sessions then snow or buckets of rain the next day! :) Welcome to springtime on the Palouse!
Thanks to that sunny gorgeousness I get to share a quick peak at one of my sessions on Sunday. I can’t help but love the sweet happy family featured in this post. I’ve been so lucky to get to know them over the last year and if I could give you examples of parents that I admire these two lovely people would be one of them. Darci & Dan, you guys are amazing and your kids are pretty cute/special/awesome too! ;)

52 Fridays | Light

April 27th, 2012

As a photographer, I love light. It is yummy. Did you know that light can be yummy?
One of my favorite ways to use light in portraits is to backlight my subjects. I love me some gorgeous rim lighting like in the second photo. And I LOVE a well done haze shot. Now I just “may” be partial but this is quite possibly one of my favorite hazy photos I’ve taken this year. I don’t share them often as the ones I usually shoot tend to be just for me, but this one felt like it needed to be shared since its inspiration was derived from this weeks theme.

I’ve been seeing this quote quite a bit online recently and it never fails to bring me peace. It lets me take a deep breath and be so so thankful for my life and the incredible people in it. Thank you to all of you who bring me happiness <3

"I think we like to complicate things when it is really quite simple; Find what it is that makes you happy and who it is that makes you happy and you're set. I promise."

This makes me happy.

52 Fridays | Pastel

April 20th, 2012

With a house full of boys, we don’t have an abundance of pastels in our home. That being said, as I planned out this week’s photo I realized there is one pastel shirt that makes an appearance and I love to see it. It comes on the form of my oh so handsome hubby and while he mostly sticks to darker dress shirts, he busts out the peach one pretty often and he totally rocks it. :)

52 Fridays | Texture

April 12th, 2012

I love texture. It enthralls me. I really could not do without. One thing that my photography gives me is the chance to capture a teeny tinsy bit of my love of texture in my photos. I love that using these different textures can add depth and oh so beautiful detail to my photos. I hope you like it too. :)

52 Fridays | Fashion

April 6th, 2012

Fashion has many meanings. Its nuances reach far past our base understanding of fashion as clothing. It’s a sense, it’s a trend, it’s creativity, it’s personality, it’s an obsession and it’s an industry. For Cavan, in regards to clothes it’s “feeling good in your skin. No mater what. Even if some kids at school say your new shoes are silly. You love them anyways and wear them proud.” And wear them he has. Almost every day since he got them :)

And just because…

52 Fridays | Friends

March 29th, 2012

I have to say I consider myself very lucky to have made so many wonderful friends in my short lifetime. I adore each and every one of them and the experiences I have been blessed with. I could honestly go on and on listing all these incredible people who have made a difference in my life but I will keep it short, because well, this post is for someone very special.

My lovely sister Ciara. She is one of my best friends and I adore her. I am so thankful for her. I can’t even think of the words to describe how much I adore this woman.

Ciara~ I love you. Thank you for being you.

52 Fridays | Innocence

March 23rd, 2012

This project is meant to be an opportunity for me to really focus on photographing my children and my family for an entire year. Each week I try and interpret the themes, bringing them into our lives.

This week’s theme is Innocence. I just couldn’t pass up the chance to share a sweet little girl whose very existence defines innocence. So, she may not be mine but I adore her anyways. Plus, since I’m playing the “it’s my project I can do what I want” getting to photograph her is a part of my life and I’m super glad & thankful to be able to share little Miss K’s photos and her innocence with you all! :)
